Ok yes, by now you can tell I am a local! The best memories growing up in Corpus Christi in the 80's are endless!!
Growing up we did play outiside, ALOT and of course, we would get thirsty so we DID drink out of the water hose up front of our house because Mom would get mad having the kids running in and out of the house letting all of the moscas in! Are you kidding, one child would go through a pitcher of Kool-Aid in a heart beat so water by no choice was the quencher! Speaking of Kool-Aid, it was our "homemade" fun-dip too, just add salt & sugar in the packet...BAM!
I loved catching the ABC After School Specials, Pin Wheel, Sesame Street, Brain Games on HBO, Good Times, Laverne & Shirley, Three's Company, The Wonder Years (My Dad and my fav), Growing Pains, Who's the Boss, Fraggle Rock, Jem, Tom & Jerry, Pee Wee's Playhouse, Punky Brewster, Different Strokes, The Facts of Life, G.I. joe, He-Man, Captain Kangaroo, Mr. Rogers, Fantasy Island, The Love Boat, Press your Luck (no whammies!!), Family Feud, $10,000 Pyramid, Scooby Doo, and duh, SCHOOL HOUSE ROCK! Favorite Candies were Big League Chewing gum, Astro Pop, Now&Laters, Pop Rocks (yes, we were afraid to drink soda with it), Candy necklaces & candy bracelets, and many more!
Clothing collection included jordache jeans, jelly shoes, nike blue tennie shoes, anything lace to have the madonna look, Black & White polka dot shirts, "Frankie Says" t-shirts, girbaud jeans, zodiac shoes, z-cavarrici's, coca-cola shirts, banana clip to hold my thick hair back, reebok hightops, swatch watch, jelly bands & jelly rings, dexter shoes, anything neon, Guess jeans (rolling them up "peg leg" style), and I don't doubt if there is much more I am forgetting! And yes, I would get in to alot of trouble for borrowing my sister's clothes without her knowing...even if her high heels didn't fit, I would still borrow them!
As Kids, my friends and I hung out at Gulf Skate...ALOT, not too much at Magic Isles, and when Dad wanted to go fishing...We were off to the T-heads so we kiddos can roller skate and have our fun too! We would stop by the "Snowball" afterwards...Add ice cream on top please!
Fav toys included Strawberry Shortcake and Holly Hobby doll to the Atari game system playing Pac-Man, Space Invaders and Defender! Ah, yes my pink & white "Barbie" bicycle...I was part of the "BMX Bandits" club...lol! Sharing my room with my sister Cindi (middle of the 3), our walls were covered with Menudo posters! Loved playing Trouble, UNO, Electronic Battleship, Operation, Candyland, Simon, Speak & Spell, Lite Brite, Hungry Hungry Hippos, Don't breakt the ice, and Connect Four! Fav video arcade games were Ms. Pac Man, Frogger, Q-bert, Tempest, Galaga, Donkey Kong, Dig Dug and many more!
